Recently Robert Kirkman Creator of The Walking Dead comics and TV Show was asked on a Q&A panel aboard The Walker Stalker cruise if Rick Grimes will ever die, “Yeah, of course,” said Kirkman.
This is a hard pill to swallow as a huge fan of Rick. How would the show work without him? Kirkman was also asked who would take the lead after the death of Rick?
“Well, that’s a question, right? Who knows? Maybe it’s a character that hasn’t been introduced yet. Maybe it’ll be Judith, who knows,” said Kirkman.
The next leader of The Walking Dead is a tough question. Maggie is the first choice, but can she carry the show? Morgan seems like he is losing it on and off, Daryl is a hot head and not really leader material, Carol could take over maybe. Carol has gone from a fragile, broken woman to a survivor that won’t take shit from anyone. She could have what it takes to make the tough decisions.
Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick told THR he’s “not at liberty” to say if Rick would soon die, but noted “there deserves to be an endpoint” for the series.
“There needs to be an end game, and that is something that is definitely being talked about. I can’t get into all of that. But all of that will be answered,” said Lincoln.
If Rick had to die, Lincoln explained, he would be game for the development — as shocking as it may be. But has also said Rick’s journey is “Far from over.”
“It’s a lot of time to invest in a story without some kind of resolution. If I was watching it I would want some answers, something, and if that means the demise of a central character or a principal character, then I’m willing to take the medicine,” said Lincoln to the Daily News.
Lincoln and Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), recently entered contract renewal negotiations with AMC Both stars are expected to return for season 9.
The Walking Dead returns Sunday, February 25 on AMC.
