The latest trailer for Luke Cage reveals Mariah Dillard’s (Alfre Woodard) plans for Harlem as she plans to rule as its queen.
In the opening, Dillard says, “Harlem doesn’t need a hero. It needs a queen.”
As a Harlem councilwoman, Dillard became unhinged last season as she fell into her mold as a crime boss with the help of Shades (Theo Rossi) after viciously taking out her cousin, Cottonmouth, with a mic stand. She wants to protect the community, but she also deals in weapons and runs the club previously ran by her late cousin.
In her way to the “crown” is Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Harlem’s bulletproof savior; Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir), season 2’s primary antagonist and enhanced human looking to take over; and Rosalie (Annabella Sciorra), a crime lord also in the mix.
Dillard also has to deal with her daughter, Tilda (Gabrielle Dennis), who suspects her mother isn’t all who she seems.
For Dillard to be successful, it appears that she’s going to manipulate her way to the top using Cage to fit in her plans as her “dark chocolate boy scout.”
Luke Cage season 2 will premiere on Netflix on June 22.
