Girl Power Reigns in “Star Wars: Forces of Destiny” Starring Daisy Ridley

The first episode of Star Wars mini-series Forces of Destiny dropped yesterday, and it focuses on Rey and BB-8 in a story called “Sands of Jakku”, according to comicbook.com.

Forces of Destiny was announced in April at the annual Star Wars celebration. The first episode gives us a peek into Rey and BB8’s (admittedly short) time together on Jakku, with Rey voiced by none other than Daisy Ridley herself. Future episodes will include Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Ashley Eckstein as Ashoka Tano, and Shelby Young as a young Princess Leia.

The series focuses on women in the Star Wars universe. The animated style and short length of the episodes make Forces of Destiny a wonderful companion to other Star Wars content for younger audiences. And of course, there is a line of tie-in dolls/action figures for each main character. I’d be offended if they weren’t so damn COOL LOOKING. The companion droids are pretty great, as well.

I’m going to need all of these

The new face of Star Wars appears to be female, and the franchise is leaving very little, if anything, to complain about how these characters are depicted. Even their “dolls” are more “action” than “fashion”. It’s all we really wanted, honestly.

Each episode of Forces of Destiny follows one character through a side quest-like story, essentially filler for events that take place in the movies. It’s a concept Star Wars fans are plenty used to by now–though this is the first series entirely devoted to lady heroes.
